Forums back online again

Just this morning both the Genesis and Phil Collins official forums were back up. However, they are on different servers than the old ones, and using different forum software. So when you visit, you'll have to re-register for them. It's uncertain as to whether the old messages from the previous forums will be uploaded.

Chester: In or Out?

There has been some uncertainty as to whether or not, long-time sidemen, Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson will be joining Banks, Collins & Rutherford on their jaunt next year. However, a recent update on Chester Thompson's Official website seems to suggest (although not spelt out or confirmed) that the 5 piece who played live together from 1978-92 will be left intact for next year.

Genesis announcement coming soon

As you all may already know November 7th is when there will be an official announcement regarding future plans for Genesis.
We have permission from the management to post news on here as well, only after the announcement is made at [link]http://www.genesis-music.com[;]the official Genesis site[/link].

Exciting times it is.

Gabriel tells more about reunion meeting

In an interview with a Daily Telegraph journalist, Peter Gabriel goes into a little detail about the reunion meeting with the other 4 members and why he decided not to join in.

Finally, Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford are reforming the three-man era of Genesis. Were you tempted to get involved?
Well they did ask me and there was a big number being thrown around the place and I didn't rule it out it. I just I felt that at the moment I was writing some new material and got some other things I wanted to do. So I said right now it's a no. I think they seemed to be enjoying the rehearsals from what I've heard,  so there's no bad feeling there. I think the problem is if it was just a one-off it would be a lot easier for me to take on board.

But I learned after the Milton Keynes save Womad concert (a 1982 Genesis reunion fund raiser) that you need at least a month's preparation to get anything worth listening too, which we really didn't have then. If you are going to do a month's work and you are going to look at presentation I think it's a six month chunk on out my life which at the moment I don't choose but if it turns round and I'm looking for things to do.

Couldn't you just turn up to do the drums?
The only problem with that was that Phil was always a better drummer than I was. I 'm not sure he was always as enthusiastic, but he's certainly more talented

Have they approached Steve Hackett (the band's guitarist who left in 1978)?
The conversations we had originally were including Steve, but I guess they are doing it as the threesome.

Sad

Hit and Run (or TSPMS) have told an invitee to the Press Conference that it seems there will be no preferential treatment as regards ticket allocation for members of forum and fan websites.

Incidentally the official forum is still down with no news as to when it might resurface. So in the meantime if you want to join in with all the other fans currently discussing the upcoming tour, I would recommend heading over to:

No further information will be supplied until that date and we respectfully ask that people desist from sending emails, letters and making phone calls for advance information - this will NOT be provided until the official date. Thank you for your patience until then.

Peter Gabriel Won't Join Genesis Reunion

Peter Gabriel will not be taking part in the upcoming Genesis reunion, although he refuses to rule out reforming with his former bandmates sometime in the future. Gabriel, who replaced as the British band's frontman by drummer Phil Collins when he left Genesis in 1976, is instead concentrating on his solo career.

He says, "There were conversations and I decided not to be a part of it. I'm very happy for them. It's not that I've ruled it out, but I've got some new material that I'll be working on."

Collins and fellow Genesis veterans Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks will reunite next year to embark on a tour of the United States and Europe.

In their heyday, the group sold more than 130 million records worldwide with hits such as "Turn It On Again," "I Can't Dance" and "Invisible Touch," and are still one of the top 30 biggest-selling music acts of all time.

AOL Slams Reunion in a one-liner

Genesis reuniting without Peter Gabriel is not a Genesis reunion. It's a Phil Collins concert.

NME

The UK music newspaper has a story today on it's website.

Genesis plan reunion tour

Peter Gabriel still steers clear

Genesis are planning a reunion tour - but without founding member
Peter Gabriel, who left the group in 1975.
The band - Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks - will reform for a series of live shows.
Collins's last album with the band was 1991's 'We Can't Dance'.
A spokesman said that specific details of the reunion - including possible new material - would be announced in the next few weeks.
The band have sold over 130 million albums worldwide since forming in 1965.

Gabriel reconfirms reunion

Another news item surfaced today on the BBC website. It appears Gabriel has been talking to them.

"There were conversations and I decided not to be a part of it," Gabriel told BBC News.

His replacement, former drummer Phil Collins, has confirmed he will take part in the reunion tour, which was announced earlier this week.

"I'm very happy for them," said Gabriel.

"It's not that I've ruled it out, but I've got some new material that I'll be working on."

GENESIS 'TURN IT ON AGAIN'

Reform and '07 Tour Announced

70's/80's super-group, Genesis, have reportedly agreed to reform for an extensive European and US comeback tour.

According to the Sunday Mirror the band lineup looks set to be Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks with founding frontman, Peter Gabriel unable to join up due to prior commitments.

There is no news whether the band plan to record again but the tour may well spawn a live album although the band are well known perfectionists and passed up the opportunity for a recording of their last performance in 2000 at the Music Managers Forum dinner at London's Hilton Hotel in honour of Genesis manager Tony Smith where they played four numbers.

More confirmation?

UK magazine, Classic Rock mentions they have received an email containing an invitation to a Genesis Press Conference to be held on November 7th. Location and venue unknown.

What we know so far

Ok, so it's established that the Reunion rumor mill started again with a report in the Sunday Mirror newspaper a couple of weeks ago. Since then;

  • Peter Gabriel confirms in his latest Full Moon Club video update that TB, MR, & PC planned on getting back together for jam session. However he will not be involved this time round.
  • Chris Caffery, guitarist with Trans-Siberian Orchestra mentions bumping into Phil and Mike in a studio in Queens, NYC.
  • The BBC website gets on the bandwagon.

Why?

In anticipation of Messrs, Banks, Collins and Rutherford getting back together, I thought it might be a little easier on the eyes to have all this information tied up in a blog, rather than a forum. This in no way detracts from the Genesis' official forum which can be found here, and where some of the information contained here will come from.
