Back to school

This article appeared on 2 Swiss newspaper websites today.

Rock group Genesis rehearses in school

Phil Collins and his legendary band, reassembled for the first time in several years, are discreetly preparing for their next tour in the Vaud village of Cossonay.

It looks like any other day in the backyard of Pré-aux-Moines school in Cossonay. The only evidence that one of the world's most famous rock groups might be around is a pile of 30 metal boxes near the school's entrance. They are tagged with the names of Genesis, the legendary British art-rock band begun in the 1970s. No sign of groupies around the premises either, as the group, disbanded for more than 10 years, prepares to reunite for another tour.

The band has been rehearsing the songs for its Turn it on again tour for the past two days in the Vaud village of Cossonay. Drummer and lead singer Phil Collins, a resident in Vaud for several years, wanted to work close to where his family lives. The band appreciates the relaxed atmosphere of the place. “Swiss people are quiet, nobody has disturbed us,” bass player Mike Rutherford told Lausanne's 24 heures newspaper.

The band decided to get back together again in 2006. Their last world tour dates back to 1993. “We have two weeks of rehearsal in front of us." Rutherford said. "For the moment, we are not nervous yet, but it will come.” Although the group is practising in Vaud, it will not be performing in nearby Lausanne or Geneva. The only Swiss date on Genesis's European tour is a June 17 stop in Berne at the Stade de la Suisse.

And they never told us??

The band appeared live at the Lincoln Center in New Yor City on April 17th, alongside artists such as Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger and Crosby, Stills & Nash. The occasion was a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun - the Atlantic Records guru who passed away last year.

Mike, Tony and Phil were joined on stage by Daryl and they performed an acoustic rendition of 'Follow You, Follow Me'. with all 3 of acoustic guitars. Their performance was preceded by Phil's spot of him singing 'In The Air Tonight' on the piano.

News Roundup

Apologies for the lack of updates recently. But here's what's been happening lately.

There was a recent interview with the band  in The Sun newspaper in which they mainly talked about their past history and the recently released album remasters.

Our friends at the It - German Genesis Fanclub website have published their in-depth interview with sideman Daryl Stuermer. In it, he talks about his past career, his solo work including his new album, Go, as well as the impending Genesis tour. He also makes a suggestion that Rutherford will be using a double-neck guitar on this tour! You can read the full interview here.

SPOILER! There is a discussion going on at the Official Forum concerning the songs that the band apparently rehearsed during their 2 weeks in NYC in October of 2006. Read it here, if you dare!

And finally, it was confirmed today that Genesis will be participating in the Live Earth concert, where they will open the UK event at the new Wembley Stadium on July 7th with a 20-25 minute set. Tickets will be priced at £55 and will be offered via a ballot system to make it fair.
