Monaco cancelled - Paris on sale next week

The gig in Monaco has had to be cancelled due to the production size of the show being too big to fit in the Louis II stadium.

This from Genesis Manager, Tony Smith:

Now we are getting close to a final design for the stage show; and following a visit to Monaco by our production manager; we have realised that we will not be able to put the show on in the Monaco Stadium due to the size of the production. Once we have had time to review the options we will update our information on this site.

Parc Des Princes, the only venue for the 1 French show will start selling tickets next Wednesday, December 6th. More details to follow.

Holland and

the 2 shows in the UK.

The dates at Old Trafford and Twickenham have sold out, although you can bid on auctions for both these dates on Ticketmaster for premium seating (seats in the front 10 rows). The Twickenham venue might have set a record for fastest sellout as all 55,000 or so tickets were bought within 75mins!

Not sold out?!!

Although it was mentioned that the 1st Dusseldorf show is sold out, if you visit the ticket page at eventim.de, you occasionally may find that a new allocation of tickets are available for purchase, so if you've planned on only going to the 1st show or attending both, keep trying! The Frankfurt show is the same. Until we have official word that a ticket agency is no longer selling tickets, please do not take it as read that a show is sold out. Keep clicking or calling!

Also the 2nd Dusseldorf show went on sale today.

Radio 5 Live

An interview appeared on BBC Radio's Five Live station early this morning. They talk about why they got back together, hint on setlists for the tour including 'the medley question', Peter's possible involvement at a later date and Tony talks about his garden!

Kudos to the interviewer for good questions. Listen in again here:

Steve H speaks

Steve Hackett has spoken out following the press conference yesterday and this was posted on his official website.

“First of all I would like to congratulate Tony, Mike and Phil for flying the flag once again. Good luck to them and I really hope they have a very successful tour.
I was originally approached to discuss the possibility of a five piece which would have included Peter Gabriel and yours truly but since Peter’s schedule precludes this it makes sense for the other three to celebrate the brand in their ‘own special way’ as it were ….”

Reports in the UK press

Lots of press reports today, obviously, so here are links to a few of them. They all pretty much say the same thing, however some of them mention that tickets for the 2 UK gigs go on sale this Friday (10th). However they are going on general sale on the 24th of this month.

Promotional CD

For those who were lucky enough to get an invite to the press conference yesterday in London, it seems that along with a press pack, attendees were also given a promotional DVD containing 5.1 surround sound versions of the following:

  1. Behind The Lines
  2. Entangled
  3. Dodo/Lurker
  4. One For The Vine
  5. Your Own Special Way
  6. Turn It On Again
  7. Follow You, Follow Me
  8. Abacab
  9. Many Too Many
  10. Los Endos

Whilst it appears to be promoting "Turn It On Again - The Tour", it is more in line with a teaser for the forthcoming new releases of the double SACD/DVD sets; the first batch of these coming out in March 2007. And it just so happens that the tracklisting above is in line with the 5 albums that are being released first.

Daryl adds more fuel to the fire

The conversation with Daryl has just recently finished with radio station WKLH. Aside from a mention of his new CD called "Rewired - The Electric Collection" being released next week, the obvious topic was the recent announcement. Points of interest were:

  • He was asked to attend the 2 week rehearsal session in NYC back in October, so obviously the band was a full compliment with Chester as well.
  • Said that it felt great playing together again after 14 years and it was like a family reunion because most of the band's kid's were there, including Simon Collins and Ben Banks.
  • When asked about the setlist for next year he said that he's currently got a list of 22 songs. Didn't mention specific songs when asked (just mentioning Invisible Touch, We Can't Dance and A Trick Of Tail), only definitely Carpet Crawlers and let slip that they were rehearsing Squonk.
  • He hasn't been told of when the band might hit the US and what venues and cities, but mentioned that they have 2 weeks of rehearsal in May and then a furthur 2 weeks with the production before the tour starts in June. Also he believes that they (Genesis) have August off, which points to a US tour in September and October.

Ticket sales

Incidentally tickets for the shows in Germany will going on sale this Friday, November 10th and November 24th for the 2 UK shows. Other countries are to be confirmed.

Press Conference coverage - America to get 20 selected dates

With the conference now over, it's time to sum up the term of events in the approx 40 mins that was dedicated for it.

It started off with comedian David Baddiel reminiscing about his love of the band which was followed by a video montage of their history, including some very recent rehearsal footage of the band performing Home By The Sea. John Giddings from UK promoter, Solo then appeared on stage announcing the 20 European dates (as have already been listed below).

Then the main event, as Collins, Rutherford and Banks approached the stage and the 3 of them took questions, initially from David Baddiel and then from the selected audience of invitees (mainly press). The obvious questions were asked throughout. The most important question to me, was that they were going to perform 20 selected shows in the US. Details on when they would be announced, when they will be and what cities, was not addressed and no questions relating to this came from the audience.

The webcast was broadcast at: http://www.genesislive.tv/ and you will be able to return there as a full recording of the conference will available at a later time.

The official website has been updated as well:

The tour dates so far:

http://www.genesis-music.com/genesisdates.htm

A new biography of the band:

Not surprisingly the official forum is particularly slow with obviously lots of people wanting to discuss the announcement.

Stuermer and Thompson: In

A recent post on the official forum included 3 new promotional pics of the band. One of them should quash the rumors about whether or not longtime cohorts Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson will be joining them on tour.

The attributes of the images say that the pictures were taken on October 21st.

Stuermer on the radio tomorrow

Daryl will be on the radio tomorrow at 8am (CST or 2pm GMT) to discuss the Press Conference, which by that time would have already happened. He will be talking to 96.5 WKLH in Milwaukee. You will be able to listen live to the interview by going here and clicking on the 'Listen Live' link. Incidentally, Daryl's website has been updated to include the flyer advertising the Press Conference.

They seem to be confused

Found an article published by United Press International, which for an organization that provides "critical information" to media outlets, I would have thought they get their stories right before releasing them publicly.

The upcoming Genesis reunion tour that begins in London next week

Nice one lads! Think maybe they are referring to said Press Conference?

Billboard: Last but not least!

US music industry magazine, Billboard, finally catches wind of news with this article that appeared on their website today.

Genesis Reuniting With Phil Collins For Tour

Mega-selling pop trio Genesis is reuniting with Phil Collins for its first tour with him since the summer of 1992. An official announcement will be made Monday (Nov. 7) in London. Genesis hasn't toured since 1998, during which Ray Wilson replaced Collins on lead vocals alongside principal members Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford.

Former frontman Peter Gabriel will not be participating in the reunion with the group he exited in 1975. "Tony, Mike and Phil are rehearsing now," he said in a recent video message on his Web site. "I'm not involved in this round or this year. I haven't ruled out the possibility of doing something in the future, but right now I'm going to focus on my own work."

Also apparently not involved is guitarist Steve Hackett, who played with the band in the Gabriel era but left in 1977.
Collins hasn't toured since 2004, an outing billed as his First Farewell tour. Of late, he's been busy writing the music for Disney's "Tarzan the Musical" on Broadway; his contribution to the animated film's 1999 soundtrack, "You'll Be in My Heart," won the Oscar for song of the year.

And while he now seems ready to tour with Genesis again, Collins sang quite a different tune in a 1996 interview with Billboard, when he declared, "How interested am I in old Genesis material? Not very interested, to be honest."

"If I'm to be completely candid, I've never been our biggest fan," he continued. "I have no reverence for the older material, apart from the fun we had making it. I never really felt like we quite got it right on record, especially in the olden days. I can see Genesis fans sticking pins in my effigy as I say this, but you know, I have to be honest -- there's no point in being anything else in life. I'm very proud of some of it, and I could take or leave some other stuff."

Possible date for sale of tickets

Peter Rieger, a German concert agent, who in the past has promoted Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel gigs in Germany, has an announcement on his website that tickets for the tour will be going on sale Friday, November 10th @ 9am [german time]. However, this is unconfirmed, at least until November 7th anyway.
